The “Science” of Collage lesson plan integrates Visual Art and Science. Students will learn to identify and explain organic shapes used in an art collage. Also includes a mini lesson from Kara Kramer's One Minute, No Glue Collage and a video link to Rex Ray inspired collage painting.
Drawing “Monsters” is a great way to get students into the habit of looking for and identifying different shapes. This quick 30 minute lesson for the “littles” integrates shape recognition, active listening and small motor skill practice.
Mind Mapping is a visual form of note taking that offers an overview of a topic and its complex information, allowing students to comprehend, create new ideas and build connections. Through the use of drawings, color, images and words, Mind Mapping encourages students to begin with a central idea and expand outward.
Use Go Away Big Green Monster to integrate Visual Art and Literacy. Students will listen for details in a story and recreating those detail in a drawn “map.” The, they will use the map to make a final painting/collage picture of the Big Green Monster described in the book.
